Pergola of Debutante at Mottisfont Abbey (Photographer Unknown)

Back cover of Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall's "Roses".

Detail of the 'Birth of Venus' by Sandro Botticelli
depicting a semi-double Alba.

I find myself browsing my old pictures of favorite roses and gardens often these days.   With my garden at its best, I always see one more spot for another Damask.

Above, last year’s portraits of my newly planted old roses, followed by a picture of unknown provenance of Mottisfont Abbey, the mecca for lovers of old roses, and the back cover of Roses by Jane Fearnly-Whittingstall.   May you escape in these pictures as well as I can!

Until next time, stay shabby!
