Begin doing what you want to
do now. We are not
living in
eternity. We have
only this moment,
sparkling like a star in our hand –
and melting like a snowflake.

For the remainder of the month I'm going to reveal photos of the loveliest shoot done at my studio cottage.
I tried to get these images published in Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic Inspirations book by way of telling Rachel over the phone they were my favorite of all. In October 2010 young photographer Emma Mattsson and stylist/writer Petra Kjellstroem flew all the way from Stockholm to shoot homes in Manhattan and Upstate New York on speculation. Lucky for us Skona Hem (Sweet Home) -- the top interior design magazine in Sweden -- bought the story for their November 2011 issue.
You may notice, gentle reader, I've watermarked the photo. I don't like the distraction of watermarks, but Pinterest has altered the online playing field so much not only am I forced to do this but I'm creating an account there in an attempt to give credit to photographers, stylists, and print publications.
The photo above is a shot of my mantel with a lovely c. 1920 shabby white oval mirror with swags and ghosted glass for $299 at Sandi of A Cottage Muse's booth at The Wrentham Country Store in Massachusetts. The candlesticks are yard sale finds I paid $2 - $12 for each.
Dainty pale pink paper roses stamped with French writing add a soft touch: try these from artist Angela Harris.
Until next time, stay shabby!

This photo is so lovely, Sandy! I'm looking forward to the rest.
Dearest Sandy,
Lovely photos and you can be very proud of the fact that they came all the way from Stockholm to shoot this.
Happy 7th birthday to your sweet Zuzu!
Love to you,
Mariette
Sandy~ beyond gorgeous....You are my pure inspiration!
Smiles~

Lovely photo. I have been wondering about Pinterest. I know it all is fun and inspiring but I have always wondered how legal it is to take these images? Sometimes when going on blogs I am not sure if they are showing me their home..or something they pinned. I prefer when people show their own photography..or when its not they make it very apparent that they pinned it.
Thanks for sharing--hope all is well!
Beautiful Sandy! I can't believe how in sync we bloggers are...I've never watermarked before until this morning and when I was on Pinterest and perusing Blogland today, I noticed SO many people doing the same thing. We must have all come to the same conclusion simultaneously. LOL! Either that, or I've been completely clueless all along.
Hope you are well!
Hugs,
Judy

blessings & hugs, Sherry
Beautiful Sandy, I will need to find out more about that magazine. I love Swedish style. I know I see a lot of posts from pinterest on blogs or maybe its pins from blogs on pinterest. I to find most bloggers give credit to the photos, some just say they are from pinterest. It is always best to take your own photo, but if you use another always give the source and credit to the owner.
Just beautiful...enough said! Di@cottage-wishes
It's beautiful my sweet friend. I have been making a point of putting my mark on my photos too. I'm slowly going through old posts and re-loading, it's taking a lot of time. I opened a pinterest account too. I have found some of my photos with no credit at all, UGH... I also found one of my photos for sale recently on a photo site. Very upsetting xo
Beautiful photo Sandi! I love it!
Blessings~
PS I do pinterest, but always try and give credit where credit is due. In theory it is great as it is supposed to always link back to the original site where the photo came from, but I suppose there are still people out there who just copy the photo and that is not right. :(
The problem with pinterest is that if a blogger posts an image on their blog with a source listed to it, it still links the image to the blog~which then you can eventually see where the credit is due. Your images are lovely and I can understand watermarking..I don't care for it either as it interupts the beauty of an image. Is it Zuzus bday? It is mine as well!
Always love coming to your blog... I do so hope you are doing well and the days are being kind to you....
So beautiful Sandy. I don't like watermarks either but have put them on my photos for while now since they do get stolen so easily.
Beautiful photo - I agree, it would have looked perfect in Rachel's last book.
I appreciate that you put the watermark on there. I find it frustrating to see others' photos on blogs & Pinterest without an easy creditable path. I always yearn to know the true source & the true home.
Thank you for all your inspiration and integrity, Sandy. :)
Lovely, lovely! Bravo!
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can take away from the beauty of your images. I totally think using a watermark on your images is a wise idea. You deserve the creadit and recognition for your work. I'm just a beginner in the world of photography and have no worries about anyone wanting to 'borrow' or 'steal' my images. As I get better, however, I will indeed use a watermark on my original works. Whenever I post using images other than my own, I always attempt to give credit where credit is due. Although I love pinning, Pinterest makes authentication difficult. Have a lovely day sweet, kindred spirit. Much love, Lisa
Lovely pictures!!! Greetings Anna!
I, too, watermark because of Pinterest, even though it links to your blog, I want credit!!
Absolutely gorgeous photo, Sandy!
Sandy~ It's staged so perfectly with such grace.
