I find myself browsing my old pictures of favorite roses and gardens often these days. With my garden at its best, I always see one more spot for another Damask.
Above, last year’s portraits of my newly planted old roses, followed by a picture of unknown provenance of Mottisfont Abbey, the mecca for lovers of old roses, and the back cover of Roses by Jane Fearnly-Whittingstall. May you escape in these pictures as well as I can!
Until next time, stay shabby!

Gorgeous roses, Sandy! And the best part is that if you have a year where they don't bloom as profusely you can pull these out and enjoy them all over again. They are gorgeous! xo Diana

The old roses are so beautiful. I have been trying to give up my passion for buying magazines and your beautiful pictures take me one step closer to total with drawl.
Rosy roses!! I really impressed to see bunch of rose plants in one place. I never seen this gorgeous collection.

Beautiful Pictures Sandy. I love old roses and have been many times to visit the walled rose garden at Mottisfont Abbey. What you don't get from photographs is the perfume. As you walk into that space it is absolutely divine.

Dearest Sandy,
Antique roses are always lovely to have in any garden!
Enjoy your summer.

Thanks; lovely photos. Adore pink roses. We have a memorial rose garden in our town, maintained by citizens and, on a recent foggy morning, the little droplets of dew on the rose petals looked like diamonds on velvet in the mist. The heat is getting to the roses now, but the rainbow of colors and varieties made for the most enchanting stroll. These small, free things to do, when so many of us still are chained to the "staycation" this summer, can be completely liberating and entirely enjoyable.
I have always wanted to visit here. The roses seem to grow upward to heaven. So far I haven't made it to the English countryside much.
I am dreaming of cooler days.
The old roses are so beautiful. Your garden in not green but it is rosy garden. Awesome collection of roses. I also planted rose before two days, it takes time to grow-up fully.
I love these pics!! pink roses and also pelagias! thanks for this!
What a lovely video! It was so relaxing :-) I've been picking wildflowers lately too, they really do offer a more appealing look than pre-arranged bouquets.
Have a lovely day,
Alicia
