Green & white Cabana Stripe pillows, stationery, decoupage cup,
and the middle striped & sprigged sheets above are all Rachel Ashwell.
The top & bottom linens are vintage Laura Ashley.
What delights me the most is the way Rachel Ashwell honors
the legacy of her wares. You could pair
something you bought yesterday with something you bought twenty years ago and
it’ll blend seamlessly.
Here’s a shot from last spring of my Rachel’s Simply
Shabby Chic Cabana Stripe throw pillows, bought at Target seven years prior for
$15 each. They’re wonderful for that crisp,
fresh, summery look of a cottage on the sea.
And, freshly laundered Simply Shabby Chic bedding
folded and stacked away. After five
years the colors are fading and fibers thinning, so it feels really vintage and
comfy. They’re the real life sheets,
unlike the purest white new linen I keep for guests. It’s a pity I didn’t think to dig up her
sachets when I shot this, I’m certain you would’ve liked to see them.
My newest acquisition is a $1 packet of sticky notes
and flags from her Treasures collection from Michael’s. I keep some flags on my nightstand (where
they are so much more restful on the eyes than those neon ones from the
office), in my wallet, my blog binder, and on my computer.
Thanks, Rachel!
Until next time, stay shabby!

I had no idea Rachael has stuff at Target! I love her stuff--and I get so delighted when I find something from her at Goodwill. You are so right--to me, everything she does is timeless and just gets better with age.
Hi Sandy,
I do adore the blues & greens here! Oh and you do Shabby Chic so well - I agree that her stuff is truly timeless! As always, your photos are beautiful & truly inspiring! Take care and enjoy your new week!
XO's,

Sorry I missed the opportunity to comment on your previous post. I did tonight. Be well! Much love, Lisa
Sandy- What a good post. I love her stuff too. I sleep on her ruffled white sheets and it is like a little bit of Heaven On Earth! I love her soft, sweet colors and, you are right, all her thiings just kind of blend together-- xo Diana
My Husband was looking at Rachel's book this morning, as he's been painting furniture for me, and I heard him say..." way ahead of her time, way ahead"
And so are you, Sandy, the little sofa I've loved for ages now, you amaze me, 'tis lovely. bisou
I loved seeing your old folded sheets Sandy. I recently bought a lot of over 200 fabric samples on ebay from Rachels original SOHO store. I have them on display in my home office and loved her choices in fabrics. I am happy to see her brand live and doing well after all this time.
Everything looks so refreshing....I adore the pillows and linens and I'm sure I will be at Michaels to pick up those very handy sticky notes...Wishing you a lovely week...Xo ~Ashley
So glad you are posting on more fun designs. I love those $1 stickie notes. I'm not familiar with Rachels designs, but like what I've seen here. Hope you are enjoying some wonderful weather, we have been blessed with above average temps etc and we are loving it. Best Wishes
I love that shade of green, Sandy. Beautiful photos, as always.
I have those sticky notes too! -And a couple of notebooks :) I use them to write blogging ideas and inspirations in. Beautiful photos!

You are 100 % right about Rachel's stuff being timeless. I love her sheets. they always feel like the sheets are coming fresh off the clothesline. That crisp fresh feeling. And soft and cozy, Like falling into a cloud. I hope you will show us those sachets later. I always stop to see what Target has of her line when I can. I recently splurged on a big pink pillow of hers/ had a gift card so how could I resist?
Take Care, and please keep delighting us with your style!
Eileen
Love it all Sandy :)
I've bought all my Shabby Chic pieces from Target. I love the sheets from Rachael's line..especially the white, ruffled ones. Of course all the pink items are favorites too.
You are right..mixing her older pieces with newer ones works so well.
Have a good week, Sandy.

A perfect sense of style... and that is what will help you start anew.. I hope the blogging community can gather round and hold your heart up, I dont know what else to say... Hi Sandy,

I'm a new follower of yiur blog. I'm catching up with older posts now. I'm so sorry about what you've got going on with yiur life right now. {{{hugs}}}
I love how you changed the look of the studio in a nanosecond, from the pinks or white-on-white to the cool, refreshing green. It's almost got a tropical feel to it but I guess that's what the cabana stripe is maybe meant to suggest. I have those very pillows, somewhere in storage and you've inspired me to find them. I treasure everything I ever bought at Target of Rachel's Simply Shabby Chic line...over, for me, the past eight or so (ten?) years. I'd make myself insane by rushing from Target to Target in my county, trying to round up everything before it was gone, whenever she'd put out a new theme. I was always a day too late! I'd swear the retail workers at Target were getting first dibs as they unpacked, and not leaving anything for the customers! Some of her stuff in the stores were never available online. I'd get frustrated! Anyway, not being able to ever afford her regular Shabby Chic offerings, I was grateful for the Target ones.
I like how you display the stacks of linens; it's a way to feast the eyes every day rather than them being shut up in a closet. You're just reminding me again about how I want to be living...like, I'd prefer to rip off all my kitchen cupboards and have open shelving. When we love our things, we want to see them!
I admire that you are literally rising out of the ashes to carry on and keep up the blog. Think about why you first started the blog and the enjoyment of sharing; renew your pleasure in it and distract your mind for a little while. Your fans love your new posts! Isn't it coincidental that Rachel herself has had a couple of rocky years, yet she's evolved in new ways, bought The Prairie, etc. I get a lot from her blog, too. I like her words of wisdom. Come to think of it, the two of you have some similarities, which I say totally as a compliment!
i would like to travel back in a time machine to make more shabby chic purchases from target. dare i say that i wasn't yet smitten with that style at the time (15 years ago)? so beautiful.
always a pleasure to peek at your studio.
i hope that your new year is off to a bright beginning!

Sandy I am thinking, praying, and carrying you in my heart. When I posted about your tiny Shabby studio back in June of 2010 it was the most viewed post! It remains that today!!! So I re-posted it today. I too collect R.A Shabby Chic linens and home decor. I have piles of it around the cottage and love the look of the layers of florals. I remember these pillows. I will never get rid of my collection because one day you know it will be vintage and/or saught after. I'm so thankful you still have your studio. ox
lovin' the dollar isle at Micheal's!!!!

I'm so sad reading about your house, and husband.
I hope this year will bring a new spring for you.

You have such a unique style. This is quite a magical place ... but your true "art" lives inside. Everything is just beautiful and artfully staged with such elegance at every corner.

The first picture is absolutly fantastic, a sort of fairy tale to live in.
Sandy,
I had discovered your beautiful site last summer but lost contact with you. Through the grapevine, I heard of your loss. I have no words to say other than I KNOW you will take the ashes of your loss to heights unimaginable for YOURSELF and your readers. Writing about it is the beginning of a journey of healing and a new life. I am very sorry to hear of this. Anita
Target, really?! How wonderful. Smooches and hugs and wishes for a beautiful weekend xo
