Daintily
branched all the way down the stem, and covered with tiny starry flowers with
violet eyes, these beauties grace dry meadows and roadsides in late September. The Small White-Flowered Aster and Calico
Aster (Symphyotrichum racemosa & Symphyotrichum lateriflorum) are known to
inbreed readily, so it’s not uncommon to see variations. I transplanted
a few plants from the side of the road two years ago and I’m rewarded with
bloom without further fuss.

Beautiful images, Sandy. I have flowers very similar to those that pop up in my yard, along with other wildflowers. I'm a neglectful gardener, so wildflowers work for me.
These are my favorite of all the asters. I have them in my garden as well and they are blooming beautifully. Such a sweet bloom and hardy plant. Your photos are so lovely Sandy. I always love your posts.

For years we used to have a rather big and healthy wild aster plant but this year's drought has killed so many. So glad to see them in your post of today! LOVE these tiny, but very strong flowers.

However, today's favourite photograph has to be the medicine bottles. I have a bottle from the American Owl Company Pharmacy and after seeing your picture, I think it would look beautiful with wild flowers too. So, thanks for your inspiration.

Hi Sandy! I have the same lovely wild asters all around my yard...I am gathering a big bunch today to bring inside. I also have the cultivated ones that I bought from a nursery, and in five years they have spread like a ground cover. Lovely pics!!
I love your asters, Sandy. It's still warm in Arizona, so my flowers look wonderful.
Of course, I can hardly tell the difference between my rosemary bush and my lavender, I'm no gardner.

Ohhh they're precious. I love asters. We have blue ones that bloom down here in North Carolina. So many times i have wanted to pull off the side of the road and dig some up.

I have seen fabric termed "aster" in terms of the purple-red color but I have never seen an aster flower, so thank you for posting about them; so lovely. In the coastal west, our roadside flowers in spring are orange-red poppy, blue-purple lupine, yellow coreopsis and yellow mustard. To me, they seem hardy; your aster is much more delicate. Our foothills now are arid and dry; I don't see fall wildflowers, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
I agree with the other commenters; your photos are so pleasing to the eye. Calming. And I enjoy your accompanying poems or quotes. Little treasures.
