My puppy Zuzu on our hillside apple orchard!
Another weed tree bites the dust.
One person's weed is another person's wildflower:
Alliaria seed gathered from roadsides last year
is a drift of white lace for this spring's
Dame's Rocket 'runway strut'.
Scored an industrial stool ($25), and $5 for these daybed ‘ends’ with killer
patina at the Memorial Day yard sale at Maple Shade Farm in Delhi .
So what if I have to build the rest of it?
I see white linen and nailheads in my future.
How was my spring workcation? Too short, of course! The garden shed My King and I intended to build was all finished on Wednesday. We guiltlessly relaxed with fun time and a date at our favorite haunt The Crossroads Café on Friday night when they have live acoustic music. We felled logs enough for next winter. We’ll split and stack them between vegetable garden chores all summer long.
After nearly a week at home, I entered that sweet state of grace -- suspended from ties to the real world and responsibilities for so long you begin to believe it. I shopped, money seeming coming from a magic plastic card for I could remember no job; I enjoyed movies with My King and we went to bed late and slept in without consequence; I played with my dogs instead of weedwhacking; I shook myself ‘back’ after minutes in the bewitching spell of my half-wild garden and it didn’t matter. Heaven.
As adults, we long for the unfettered feeling of summer so much we sometimes go to great lengths to feel like a kid again. I built my streamside studio to recapture this! Whether you vicariously relive your childhood by giving your children a fun summer every day, or if you’re at work or school for so many hours summer comes and goes without you noticing, I hope you have at least one magic summer moment this year.
This leads me to a great summer lifestyle book I'm sharing with you: “Sanselig Sommer” (A Summer for All the Senses) by Franciska Munck-Johansen. I’m giving a copy away next post – stay tuned!

Hello Sandy
I think that working out in the fresh air, surround by the scents of nature returns us, eventually, to a state of equilibrium. So, I'm not surprised that you had that feeling of well-being. I'm sure that looking at all that wood for next winter also helped.
Anna
Hi, Sandy! You have truly found your little bit of heaven. Love the images you've shared with us today, both written and visual! Love the bed end pieces that you got ~ wow, I can see something great concocted from those. Somehow adorable Zuzu just doesn't look at home in the woods!! :0)
Hope you'll pop over to my Wedding Blog Party and Giveaway on Friday!
Big TX Hugs,

Wonderful, beautiful images. So peaceful where you live.
Hi Sandy,
I so needed that walk by the stream and to take in the flowers and watch Zuzu playing in amongst them, thank you x
I am dying at those day bed ends, can not wait to see you work your magic!
I was told by someone near my cottage that i would be enjoying my second child hood after talking of pink plans,i told her i am still in my first one and have no intention of leaving ;-)
Love to you Kristina xxx
Freezing here in the grip of wind blowing over snowy hills and living springtime vicariously thru this lovely post (yes it really does get freezing cold here in Sydney but not usually THIS early in the winter). Your place looks wonderful at this time of year and your long lie-in mornings, movies and coffee dates with your man sound like heaven. You surely do deserve it :)
It is so true as an adult that I still long for that bit of carefree summer time! Your Staycation sounded perfect! I'm hoping at least a long weekend comes my way in July.
Beautiful post today.....i am glad your vacation was fine.....please come and join my give away darling.....??...and you are giving a book away ???...wowwww......great !! have a nice day......love love Ria...xxx...
Wonderful photos! Great finds and a vacation at home is more relaxing than anywhere in my humble opinion. It relaxes me just to read about it. Thanks for shareing it Sandy,,,,the book looks wonderful.

Sandy-
I am always enchanted coming here. It reminds me so much of the mountains in PA where I grew up. I spent most of my times in the woods when I was old enough to go on my own...and there were hidden springs here and there. It was a magical, wild world to escape to and I loved it.
When I visit you I sense that same awe and wonder that I felt as a kid...and would love to create again. Sometimes I dream of going home to the mountains and wish I could. Instead, I enjoy your dream and make part of it my own. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with all of us- xo Diana
It sound like you spend your vacation in Heaven. Talking about a state of bliss. Your finds, I can never get over the things and the prices some of you get. Our market is soooo depleted and living in a state without big attics or basements doesn't help either. Continue to enjoy all your blessings, Marta.
Beautiful images!
Perfection! Isn't it wonderful to slow down and take in this beautiful world and feel the joy of a happier, simpler life?
Gorgeous photos and wonderful finds... and of course, little Zuzu is adorable! :)
Enjoy!
~ your friend, Zuzu
As always I so enjoy your posts!! I too like some of the "weed" flowers. This year I found some wild phlox in my gardens no doubt blown in or seeded by birds. They are lovely & simple.....
Have a Great Day!!
Marilyn
Those summer moments! Thank you for reminding me.
So glad you got some time to slip into that state of mind.
Sandy,
What a beautiful post. I just returned from spending 2 weeks at my cottage and they were glorious. I didn't want to come back to reality. We moved to the city 5 years ago for my husbands job, but I long, long, long for the countryside! What a blessing you have in your little hideaway.
Mary
Sounds like you got alot done and then stil had some down time to enjoy the important things. Love ZuZu.
Your words are so true. We get so busy in life making things right for others. We do need just a tiny bit of time for ourselves.
What a beautiful post. I could see my little girls running through your beautiful woodsy areas playing hide and seek and it made me feel young again and wanting in on the fun as well.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi Sandy,
Beautiful images, as always. Great finds. Love that table your industrial stool is sitting on. I even love your old thermos. I've never lost that child within. How could you not have peace in your surroundings?
How green and peaceful your photo's look!
Lieve groet, Madelief
You have the most beautiful talent and energy, Sandy! I am enjoying my time reading through your lovely blog and wish to thank you for many pleasurable moments through your sharing. I loved your segment on 'Nate'...what a compliment! That Zuzu is a sweet little angel on earth!
Wishing you a beautiful day,
Linda
What a beautiful post, Sandy. I can't wait to see what you do with the day bed ends. They are just perfect for your little cottage.

Sounds like heaven to me! I agree about the wildflowers (weeds) they can be so pretty...and I once made a day bed out of two footboards, your finds are killer!
Hi Sandi,
I am glad to hear of your vaca:-) LOVE the headboard, aand can't wait to see what you create!
I went to hills to get some shots of the Dames rocket but I am a bit too late...
I know just what you mean about the child in your heart :-))))
Hugs,
Bella
The VIEW... Heavenly!!! And your new finds are terrific... "score"!
Dawn... The Bohemian
It is so nice to see you post again. It's good you realize you live in such a beautiful place; it's pristine...I just have never seen anything like it, truly. No wonder you yearn for it when you are away. The photos are amazing. Something really touched me with this particular post; tears sprung to my eyes. I think we are all seekers of contentment in these especially difficult times. It didn't help today to read that the new retirement age may be age 84; impossible. Savor the moments now, like your splendid workcation with those you love in a place you love. Thanks for the reminders and the heartfelt words.
I just love your beautiful photos...calm and quiet <3
I love the book too but i must admit that your pages are my favourite ones!
Have a lovely weekend!
Hanne:)
Hi Sandy,
Thanks so much for sharing bits of your wonderful life with us. Your photos are beautiful.
Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation! Loved the way you spoke of recapturing the excitement of lazy summer days from childhood. Your photos are wonderful!
Isn't it grand to refuel and have time to stop and smell the roses? I only come to your blog when I have the time to enjoy every minute of it. It's the same feeling I get when we escape to our camp in the Adirondacks.
Enjoy the weekend!
Oh what absolutely beautiful finds!!! LOVE the patina on the daybed ends! Your world looks magical ~ so relaxing and wonderful! :)
